Purpose : This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a military hospital health promotion program on military personnel¡¯s health perceptions and health promotion behavior.
Method : The participants(n=78) were divided into either the control(n=31) or the experimental(n=47) group. The experimental group received a 12 week program that included a health promotion campaign, a smoking cessation clinic,
stress management, and a lifestyle management program. The questionnaire was composed of 88 questions. 17 questions were for general characteristics, 2 for perceived health status, 11 for perceived benefit, 11 for perceived barrier, and 47 for health promotion behavior. The methods used for data analysis were descriptive statistics, chi-square test, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
Results : The experimental group showed a significantly lower perceived barrier and a significantly improved health promotion behavior compared to the control group. However, there were no significant changes in perceived health status and perceived benefits.
Conclusion : These results suggest that a military hospital health promotion program may lead to improvement in health perceptions and health promotion behavior.
